Boston natal John Fields se enamoró de la música a muy temprana edad y aprendió a tocar la guitarra, bajo, piano y batería. Mientras tocaba en varias bandas locales, se quedó fascinado con el arte de la grabación y puso su mirada en convertirse en un productor de discos.
